Opus Square Outdoor Wall Light - Black

The Opus is a 90mm square outdoor wall light built from painted die-cast aluminium with a transparent Pyrex glass diffuser on the underside. The black-finished metal cube houses a single G9 bulb (sold separately) which casts light downward through the glass panel. The IP44 rating allows installation in exterior locations exposed to rain and moisture, including covered porches, under eaves, and sheltered wall positions.

Designed for residential entrances, pathway lighting, and exterior wall positions requiring a compact downlight, the Opus mounts to standard exterior back boxes and wall fixings. The 100mm projection from the wall keeps the fitting clear of most door frames and wall surfaces. The downward light distribution suits positions where illumination of a doorstep, path edge, or wall-mounted plaque is needed without spill light into neighbouring properties or upward light pollution.

The die-cast aluminium body provides structural rigidity and corrosion resistance in coastal and urban environments. The black painted finish is baked onto the metal, giving UV resistance and colour retention over multiple seasons. The Pyrex glass diffuser tolerates thermal cycling from the bulb without cracking, and the sealed glass-to-metal joint maintains the IP44 ingress protection. The G9 fitting accepts halogen or LED capsule bulbs up to the maximum wattage specified in the table below, giving control over light output and colour temperature.

What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?

IP44 provides protection against water splashing from any direction, making the Opus suitable for sheltered exterior positions such as under eaves, covered porches, and wall locations that do not receive direct driving rain. It is not rated for full immersion or high-pressure water jets.

What bulb does it take?

The Opus takes a single G9 capsule bulb, sold separately. G9 bulbs are available in halogen (typically 40W-60W) or LED (5W-10W equivalent). Check the Specification table for the maximum wattage rating for this fitting.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, when paired with a dimmable G9 bulb and a compatible dimmer switch. The aluminium housing and Pyrex glass do not affect dimming — dimmer compatibility depends entirely on the bulb choice.

Can it be installed upside down or sideways?

The Opus is designed for vertical wall mounting with the glass diffuser facing downward. Installing it in other orientations may compromise the IP44 seal and water drainage, allowing moisture to collect inside the glass.
