Description

The Colven is a 46cm-diameter lantern pendant built around a cylindrical frame of clear flat glass panels held in a polished brass structure, with six internal candle-style holders arranged in two tiers inside the glass enclosure. The frame is topped with a scrolled brass crown and hangs on a matching polished brass chain, giving the fitting a total drop of approximately 69cm before adjustment.

Designed for entrance halls, staircases and double-height spaces with ceiling heights of 2.7m or above, the Colven acts as a focal point where vertical height is available. The clear glass panels allow the six SES bulbs to be visible from all angles, making the choice of bulb visible and decorative — most buyers pair this with flame-tip LED candle bulbs at 2700K to match the warm brass tone. The lantern can be suspended centrally above a staircase void or in a front hall where it greets visitors on entry.

The polished brass frame catches and reflects both natural daylight and artificial light from the bulbs themselves, creating a warm metallic accent that suits traditional, Edwardian and Georgian-inspired interiors. The scrollwork on the upper crown and the curved support arms add decorative detail without overwhelming the clean cylindrical silhouette. The lantern takes six SES (Small Edison Screw, E14) bulbs, each rated up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most buyers use flame-tip LED candle bulbs at 4-6W and 2700K to match the warm brass finish and create a traditional candle effect.

What ceiling height is needed?

The 69cm height is the body of the lantern itself, before the chain. With the chain and canopy this fitting typically needs a ceiling height of 2.7m or above to hang without dominating the space. In double-height entrance halls or above staircases the chain can be extended to suit the void.

Can the glass panels be removed for cleaning?

Yes. The flat glass panels lift out individually from the brass frame, allowing access for cleaning and bulb replacement without dismounting the entire lantern.

Is the brass lacquered or will it tarnish?

Polished brass fittings from Impex are typically lacquered to maintain the bright gold finish and prevent tarnishing. Over time and with handling the lacquer may wear in high-contact areas, at which point the brass can be polished or left to develop a natural patina depending on preference.
