Colven 3 Light Lantern - Polished Brass

The Colven is a 3 light cylindrical lantern in polished brass with clear flat glass panels forming the sides and a curved brass framework overhead. Three SES (E14) bulb holders sit inside the glass enclosure on a central stem, each rated to 60W maximum. The lantern measures 25.5cm diameter and 53cm height including the domed canopy and decorative finials, with a further adjustable drop on chain or rod depending on ceiling height.

Designed for entrance halls, landings, stairwells and above console tables where a 360-degree light throw is useful, the Colven lantern provides ambient rather than task lighting. The clear glass allows the bulbs themselves to be visible when lit, so decorative filament bulbs work well here to add character. The 25.5cm diameter suits ceiling heights of 2.4m upwards without feeling undersized, while the 53cm body height gives vertical presence without dominating narrower hallways.

The polished brass finish has a high reflective sheen that catches daylight and lamplight, making it work in period Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian interiors as well as contemporary schemes pairing brass with darker walls or charcoal joinery. The curved supports extending from the canopy down to the cylindrical frame add decorative detail without the fussiness of heavily ornamented Victorian reproductions. What bulbs does the Colven take?

Three SES (E14 small Edison screw) bulbs, each rated to a maximum of 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. The clear glass means the bulbs are visible when the lantern is on, so decorative filament bulbs at 2700K-3000K work well here.

What ceiling height is needed?

The lantern body is 53cm tall excluding the chain or rod drop. For an entrance hall or landing with a ceiling height of 2.4m upwards, the lantern typically hangs with 200-300mm clearance above head height. Adjustable chain allows the drop to be set on installation.

How is the brass maintained?

Polished brass develops a natural patina over time. To maintain the high shine, wipe with a soft dry cloth and use a brass polish sparingly once or twice a year. For a lived-in look, allow the patina to develop naturally without polishing.

Is the glass removable for cleaning?

The clear glass panels are removable for cleaning and bulb changes. Wipe glass with a damp microfibre cloth and dry immediately to avoid water marks. Clean when the lantern is switched off and cool.
