Description

The Mercury T2A is a 5 x 20mm slow blow fuse rated at 2A and 250V, housed in a standard glass cartridge with nickel-plated end caps. The time-delay characteristic allows temporary current surges during device startup to pass without blowing the fuse, while still providing overcurrent protection once the circuit reaches steady-state operation.

Designed for low-current electronics, audio equipment, control circuits and instrumentation where inrush current spikes occur during power-on, the slow blow construction uses a thicker filament element than fast-acting fuses. This allows brief overloads of several times the 2A rating for a few hundred milliseconds before the fuse element melts and breaks the circuit. The 250V rating makes it suitable for both mains-voltage and low-voltage DC circuits.

The 5 x 20mm glass cartridge fits standard panel-mount and PCB-mount fuse holders used across consumer electronics, amplifiers, DJ equipment and measurement devices. The transparent glass tube allows visual inspection of the fuse element to confirm whether it has blown. IEC approval confirms the fuse meets international safety standards for overcurrent protection devices.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between slow blow and fast-acting fuses?

Slow blow fuses tolerate brief current surges without blowing, making them suitable for devices with high startup current (motors, transformers, power supplies). Fast-acting fuses blow immediately when current exceeds the rating, protecting more delicate circuits where any overcurrent indicates a fault.

What does T2A mean?

T indicates time-delay or slow blow operation. 2A is the rated continuous current — the fuse will carry 2A indefinitely but will blow if the current exceeds this for an extended period. Brief surges above 2A are tolerated during startup.

Can this replace an F2A or FF2A fuse?

No. F indicates fast-acting and FF indicates very fast-acting. Replacing a fast fuse with a slow blow fuse removes protection from circuits designed to clear faults quickly, which could allow damage during short circuits or overloads.

How is the fuse removed from a holder?

For panel-mount holders with screw caps, unscrew the cap and the fuse will drop out. For spring-clip PCB holders, gently pull the fuse out lengthways. Always disconnect power before replacing fuses.
