Description
The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang double pole switch combines a neon indicator with a flex outlet behind an antique brass square edge faceplate with matching metal rocker. Rated at 20A on 230V mains, the switch handles fixed appliances drawing up to 4,600W, making it suitable for water heaters, immersion heaters, fixed air conditioning units and commercial kitchen equipment.
Double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the switch is off, providing additional safety for high-draw fixed appliances. The neon indicator glows red when the switch is in the on position, giving clear visual confirmation that power is live to the appliance. The flex outlet below the switch allows the appliance cable to exit cleanly through the faceplate rather than looping around the outside of the plate.
The antique brass finish shows a deliberately aged patina with darker tonal variation across the surface, paired with the square edge profile that sits flat to the wall without a raised bevelled rim. The premium grade steel construction and built-in gasket provide durability in light-commercial and residential installations. The 25mm minimum back box depth requirement fits standard UK electrical boxes, and the screw terminals accommodate 2.5mm² and 4mm² cable.

Frequently Asked
What appliances is a 20A switch rated for?
The 20A rating handles fixed appliances drawing up to 4,600W on 230V mains. Common applications include water heaters, immersion heaters, underfloor heating systems, fixed air conditioning units and commercial kitchen equipment. It is not intended for standard plug socket loads.
What does the neon indicator show?
The neon glows red when the switch is in the on position, confirming that power is live to the appliance. This provides a visual safety check, particularly useful for appliances like immersion heaters where the appliance itself may not give an obvious visual indication that it is powered.
What is the flex outlet for?
The flex outlet is a circular aperture below the switch that allows the appliance cable to exit cleanly through the faceplate rather than running around the outside of the plate. This gives a neater finish when the appliance is hard-wired rather than plugged in.
What back box depth is required?
A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The switch projects 10.5mm from the wall surface once installed. The screw terminals accommodate 2.5mm² and 4mm² cable, which is standard for 20A circuits in UK wiring regulations.
