Description

The Ridmore is a 2 light solid brass wall light built around a slender vertical backplate with a raised knotted tassel motif at the base. Two curved arms extend symmetrically from the central stem, each holding a sconce-style bulb holder that takes a small Edison screw (SES) candle bulb. The entire fitting is finished in polished brass, giving a high-gloss reflective surface that catches both natural and artificial light.

Designed for hallways, formal living rooms and stairwell landings where wall-mounted ambient light pairs with traditional or classical interiors, the Ridmore sits 30.5cm tall and projects 11.5cm from the wall once fitted. This modest projection keeps the fitting within clearance limits for corridors and walkways while the 21cm width prevents the arms from overwhelming narrow wall sections. The tassel detail at the base of the backplate gives the fitting a vertical anchor point, making it well-suited to symmetrical installation either side of mirrors, artwork or architectural features like dado rails.

The solid brass construction gives the fitting a 0.70kg weight, which provides stability when wall-mounted but requires appropriate fixings into brick, block or studwork rather than plasterboard alone. The polished finish will show fingerprints and dust, so regular buffing with a soft cloth maintains the reflective quality. What bulb does it take?

The Ridmore takes two SES (Small Edison Screw, E14 base) candle bulbs, each up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K for a traditional look with lower energy consumption.

Is it suitable for narrow hallways?

The 11.5cm projection from the wall is modest enough for typical UK hallway widths of 90-120cm, provided the fitting is mounted above dado rail height or head clearance level. The 21cm arm span means it suits wall sections at least 40cm wide for balanced positioning.

Can it be installed on plasterboard walls?

The 0.70kg weight requires secure fixings. On plasterboard walls, use cavity fixings rated for at least 2kg per fixing point, or mount into a timber stud behind the plasterboard. Brick and block walls accept standard wall plugs and screws.

How is the polished brass maintained?

Polished brass shows fingerprints and tarnishes over time when exposed to air. Wipe regularly with a dry microfibre cloth to maintain the reflective finish. For deeper cleaning or to remove tarnish, use a brass-specific metal polish and buff to restore the shine.
