Description
The Cheswin is a 2-light wall sconce cast from solid brass with an ornate backplate, two upward-curving arms and a pineapple finial rising from the central column. Each arm terminates in a scalloped drip pan supporting an SES (E14) candle bulb holder. The polished brass finish shows high reflectivity and a warm golden tone that changes with ambient light levels.
Designed for hallways, dining rooms, staircases and bedroom walls where traditional or period styling is required, the Cheswin works in pairs flanking mirrors, doorways or fireplace breasts. The 17.5cm projection suits walls with limited clearance, while the 30cm height and width give the sconce enough presence to read as a feature rather than an accessory. The vertical proportion helps draw the eye upward in rooms with lower ceilings or narrow wall sections.
The backplate carries embossed scrollwork, fluting and relief detail typical of late-Georgian and early-Victorian brass fittings. The solid brass construction gives the sconce a 2.5kg weight that requires secure wall fixings—rawl plugs and screws are recommended into masonry or timber studs. The polished finish will develop a natural patina over time unless regularly cleaned with a brass polish; some buyers prefer to allow the patina to form for an aged appearance.
The Cheswin pairs with other Impex solid brass fittings in the same polished finish, including matching chandeliers and ceiling lights, to create a coordinated scheme across a room or floor. The sconce is suitable for dimmer switches when paired with dimmable SES LED or halogen candle bulbs.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does it take?
The Cheswin takes two SES (E14 small Edison screw) candle bulbs, each up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with 4-6W LED candle bulbs in warm white (2700K-3000K) for a traditional candle effect.
Is it suitable for dimming?
The sconce itself is compatible with dimmer switches, but bulb compatibility depends on the specific LED or halogen bulb chosen. Use dimmable SES bulbs and confirm compatibility with your dimmer model.
How is it fixed to the wall?
The backplate has two fixing points for screws. At 2.5kg weight, the sconce requires secure fixings into masonry (using rawl plugs and screws) or timber studs. Plasterboard-only fixings are not recommended unless using specialist cavity toggles rated for the weight.
Will the brass tarnish over time?
Yes. Polished brass develops a natural patina (darkening and loss of shine) over months or years depending on humidity and handling. This can be removed with brass polish if you prefer to maintain the bright finish, or left to develop for an antique appearance.
