Description

A garden parasol, 3m across, in green. The arm carries the canopy from the side, so there is no pole through the middle of the table. That is the whole reason to buy a cantilever rather than a centre pole, and it is why the base has to be heavier. At 265cm it stands taller than a standard interior door. Whether a garden table gets used in July comes down to shade. A canopy this size covers the seated area rather than the table top alone, which is what decides between eating outside and giving up by mid-afternoon.

A natural, unpainted finish shows the material doing its own work — the grain, the weave or the fibre is the decoration, and no two pieces are identical because no two lengths of the raw material are. The frame is aluminium, which does not rust. That is the material decision that matters on anything left outdoors: steel painted well will still find a scratch and start weeping rust from it, aluminium will not.

A base is required and is sold separately, and on a free-arm parasol it has to be heavier than a centre pole would need. It runs on 2 Li 18650 (rechargeable) cells, supplied. Aluminium frame. A cover is available for it.

Two things get overlooked: the base, which is separate and has to suit the canopy rather than merely look tidy, and where the shade actually lands. The sun moves, so shade that covers the table at one o'clock will not at four unless it tilts or turns.
