Description
The Flessen is an 18-light solid brass chandelier built across two tiers of candle-style arms, finished in antique brass with a turned central column and spherical drop weight. The upper tier carries six lights on curved arms radiating from the central shaft, while the lower tier holds twelve lights arranged in a wider circle below. Each candle holder takes an SES (E14) bulb up to 40W, sold separately.
Designed for double-height entrance halls, vaulted dining rooms and stairwells with ceiling heights of 3m or above, the Flessen suits period and traditionally-detailed interiors where a formal centrepiece is needed. The 80cm diameter and 67cm drop require adequate floor-to-canopy clearance — the fitting is typically mounted where the bottom tier sits at least 2m above floor level, or 800-900mm above a large dining table. At 8kg total weight, the chandelier requires a ceiling rose rated for heavy fittings and joist-mounted fixing rather than plasterboard anchors alone.
The antique brass finish is darker and more subdued than polished brass, with a patinated surface that minimises reflections and reads warmer under incandescent or warm-white LED bulbs. The turned profile on the central column and the spherical brass weight at the base reference 17th- and 18th-century Dutch and Flemish chandelier design, where the name 'Flessen' (Dutch for 'bottles') originates from the bottle-shaped central finial common in those historical pieces. The solid brass construction means the fitting will develop further natural patina over time if left unpolished.
Each of the eighteen arms is individually wired and fixed to the central frame using brass collars and internal threaded rods. The chain and canopy are included, with the drop adjustable during installation by shortening the chain to suit the ceiling height. The fitting is not suitable for outdoor use and carries no IP rating for damp environments.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does the Flessen take?
Each of the 18 candle holders takes an SES (E14, small Edison screw) bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K for a period-appropriate glow without excessive running costs.
What ceiling height is required?
The 67cm drop and 80cm diameter suit ceiling heights of 3m or above. In a dining room the bottom tier typically sits 800-900mm above the table surface. In an entrance hall or stairwell the fitting should clear head height with at least 2m from the floor to the lowest point of the chandelier.
How is the chandelier installed?
At 8kg the Flessen requires a ceiling rose rated for heavy fittings and must be fixed to a joist or structural beam, not plasterboard alone. The chain is adjustable during installation to set the final drop. Professional installation by a Part P-registered electrician is recommended.
Can the antique brass be polished?
The antique brass finish is deliberately patinated to give a darker, aged appearance. Polishing it would lighten the tone and remove the patina, changing the character of the fitting. If you prefer a brighter finish, consider a polished brass variant instead.
