Description
The Winslow is a 216mm semi-flush ceiling light built around a cylindrical seeded glass shade suspended from a natural brass canopy. The fitting sits 270mm below the ceiling, with the E27 lampholder visible inside the glass cylinder, allowing the bulb itself to become part of the design when a decorative filament or vintage-style bulb is fitted.
Designed for hallways, bedrooms, walk-in wardrobes and utility rooms with ceiling heights of 2.3m or above, the Winslow provides direct downward light with the seeded glass diffusing the lamp output to soften shadows. The 270mm drop keeps the fitting clear of head height in typical residential corridors while bringing the light source lower than a flush-mount fitting would. The natural brass finish on the canopy, screws and lampholder develops a patina over time unless regularly polished.
The seeded glass has a fine bubble texture running through the cylinder, visible when the light is off and accentuated when lit. This texture breaks up hard light from bare filament bulbs and gives the fitting a handmade character. The brass components show turned and milled details typical of early 20th-century American lighting, and the exposed lampholder and hardware suit interiors that mix industrial, traditional and contemporary elements.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does the Winslow take?
The fitting takes one E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W, sold separately. The lampholder is exposed inside the glass shade, so a decorative filament bulb or vintage-style LED shows well. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K.
What ceiling height is needed?
The 270mm drop from ceiling to base of the glass shade suits rooms with ceiling heights of 2.3m or above. In lower-ceilinged hallways or utility rooms the fitting may sit close to head height but remains above the typical 2.1m doorway clearance.
Does the brass tarnish over time?
Natural brass develops a patina as it oxidises in air. This darkening is a characteristic of the material. If a consistent bright finish is preferred, the brass components can be polished periodically with a brass cleaner.
Is the seeded glass effect visible when the light is off?
Yes. The fine bubble texture in the seeded glass is visible in daylight even when the fitting is switched off, giving the shade a handmade character distinct from smooth clear glass.
