Description

The Umbra is a 660mm crystal chandelier with six chrome arms, each terminating in an SES candle bulb holder and wrapped in angular strands of cut crystal beadwork. The arms curve outward and upward from a central chrome column, creating a sculptural form that combines the candle layout of traditional chandeliers with a branching, organic structure. The crystal beadwork follows the line of each arm and intersects at the centre, refracting light across multiple planes when the bulbs are lit.

Designed for dining rooms with 2.7m or higher ceilings, entrance halls and living rooms where ceiling height allows the 660mm drop to sit without dominating the vertical space. The six-arm symmetry provides even light distribution across a 2-3m diameter area, making it suitable for positioning above dining tables seating six to eight. The chrome canopy fits standard UK ceiling roses and the chandelier suspends on a chain concealed within the central column.

The cut crystal beadwork wraps each arm in a geometric pattern, with faceted edges that catch and scatter light during the day and multiply the effect of the six candle bulbs at night. The chrome finish on the metalwork is polished rather than brushed, giving high reflectivity that pairs with the crystal detailing. At 8.8kg the chandelier requires secure ceiling fixing into a joist or using appropriate cavity fixings rated for the load.

What bulbs does the Umbra take?

The chandelier takes six SES (E14 small Edison screw) bulbs, each rated up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K for a traditional candle-flame effect.

What ceiling height is needed?

The 660mm height combined with the chain suspension typically requires a ceiling height of 2.7m or above to avoid the chandelier sitting too low in the room. For dining tables the chandelier should hang 750-900mm above the table surface.

Is the crystal removable for cleaning?

The crystal beadwork is fixed to the chrome arms and is not designed to be removed. To clean, switch off at the mains and wipe the crystal strands gently with a dry microfibre cloth. For more thorough cleaning, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water can be used, but avoid soaking the crystal or the chrome metalwork.

What fixing is required for the weight?

At 8.8kg the chandelier must be fixed securely into a ceiling joist or using cavity fixings rated for at least 15kg. Standard plasterboard fixings are not sufficient. If you are unsure about the ceiling structure, consult a qualified electrician before installation.
