Description

The Solara is a 39cm crystal flush ceiling light built around five G9 bulb fittings arranged within a gold metal drum frame, its outer surface covered in rectangular and square-cut faceted crystal panels. The 18cm profile sits close to the ceiling, making it suitable for rooms with ceiling heights of 2.2-2.5m where a hanging pendant would intrude into headroom.

Designed for entrance halls, compact living rooms, bedrooms and corridors, the Solara combines ambient light output with decorative surface. The faceted crystal panels catch and refract light from the five internal G9 bulbs, casting patterned reflections onto surrounding walls and ceiling. The gold frame runs around the perimeter of each crystal panel, providing a warm metallic accent that works in traditional, Art Deco and warm-toned contemporary interiors.

The crystal panels are arranged in horizontal bands around the drum circumference, with the five G9 bulbs positioned inside the frame to light the crystals from within rather than projecting downward. This configuration means the fitting acts more as a decorative light source than a direct downlight, providing soft ambient coverage rather than focused task light. At 3.3kg the fitting requires secure ceiling fixing into a joist or appropriate ceiling anchor.

What bulbs does it take and are they included?

The Solara takes five G9 capsule bulbs with a maximum combined wattage of 33W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit G9 LED bulbs at 2-3W each in warm white (2700K-3000K) to achieve soft ambient lighting without exceeding the wattage limit.

Is it suitable for low ceilings?

Yes. The 18cm projection from ceiling to base makes the Solara suitable for rooms with ceiling heights of 2.2m or above. It provides ambient light without hanging into the room space, making it a practical choice where headroom is limited.

How is the crystal cleaned?

Switch off the power at the consumer unit before cleaning. Use a dry microfibre cloth to wipe the crystal panels gently, or a barely-damp cloth with distilled water for stubborn marks. Avoid household sprays and do not immerse the fitting or allow water to enter the bulb holders.

Is it dimmable?

Dimmer compatibility depends on the G9 bulbs fitted. Most modern G9 LED capsule bulbs are dimmable when paired with an LED-compatible trailing-edge dimmer. Check the bulb packaging for confirmation before installing on a dimmed circuit.
