Description

The Solar is a 110mm surface-mounted downlight with a cylindrical aluminium body finished in polished chrome and a transparent Pyrex glass lens at the aperture. It takes a single GU10 bulb (sold separately) and carries an IP44 rating, meaning it resists both water splashes and solid dust ingress above 1mm diameter.

Designed for outdoor installation on covered porches, building entrances, and outdoor corridors where direct overhead weather exposure is minimal, the Solar also suits indoor bathroom zones outside the immediate shower area (Zone 2 or beyond). The 110mm diameter cylinder sits low against the ceiling, typically projecting 100-120mm depending on the GU10 bulb fitted, making it practical for covered outdoor areas with ceiling heights of 2.2m or above.

The polished chrome finish reflects ambient light and pairs with stainless steel hardware, glass balustrades and modern metallic colour schemes. The Pyrex glass lens protects the bulb from accidental contact and helps diffuse the beam edge slightly, reducing hard shadows compared to an unshielded GU10 fitting. The Solar is dimmable when paired with a dimmable GU10 bulb and compatible dimmer switch.

Can this be used outdoors?

Yes. The IP44 rating means the Solar resists water splashes and solid dust ingress, making it suitable for covered outdoor areas such as porches, building entrances and covered walkways. It should not be used in fully exposed positions where it will receive direct rain.

What bulb does it take?

The Solar takes a standard GU10 bulb up to 50W (halogen) or LED equivalent. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit a 5-7W LED GU10 in 3000K or 4000K depending on whether warm or neutral white light is preferred.

Is it dimmable?

The fitting itself is dimmable. Whether the installed light dims depends on the GU10 bulb fitted and the dimmer switch used. Pair a dimmable GU10 LED with a compatible LED dimmer to achieve smooth dimming performance.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

Yes, in Zone 2 or beyond (at least 600mm horizontally from a shower or bath edge). The IP44 rating provides adequate protection against bathroom moisture and steam in these zones. It should not be fitted directly above a shower or bath (Zone 1 or 0).
