Description
The Portales is a 100cm square photography print on tempered glass showing a grid of twelve historic European door facades. Each panel captures a different entrance — cobalt blue double doors with brass detailing, burgundy panelled timber, arched Gothic oak with wrought iron, weathered teal paint on carved wood — photographed in natural light to preserve the texture of aged paint, stone surrounds and metalwork.
Designed as architectural wall art for hallways, dining rooms and living room gallery walls, the Portales works in both period and contemporary interiors. The grid composition gives the print symmetry and rhythm, while the colour palette of blues, reds, greens and natural wood tones provides enough visual interest to anchor a wall without needing additional pieces around it. The 100cm square format suits walls with at least 120cm of clear space horizontally and vertically.
The image is printed directly onto 4mm tempered glass, giving the surface a smooth finish without the reflective glare of acrylic or the texture grain of canvas. The glass substrate also adds weight — the print weighs 10kg, so wall fixings must be rated for plasterboard or solid masonry depending on the wall type. Hanging ironwork is included with the print.
Each door in the grid shows different architectural detailing — arched pediments, recessed panels, decorative ironmongery, stone lintels — providing enough variety that the eye moves across the composition rather than settling on a single focal point. The photography style is documentary rather than stylised, capturing the doors as they exist in situ with weathering, patina and asymmetry intact.

Frequently Asked
What wall fixings are needed?
The print weighs 10kg and includes hanging ironwork. For plasterboard walls, use heavy-duty plasterboard anchors rated to at least 15kg. For solid masonry or brick, standard wall plugs and screws are sufficient. The ironwork on the rear of the print hooks onto wall-mounted fixings — specific hardware is not included, as wall type varies.
Does the glass show reflections?
Tempered glass has a smooth surface that reflects ambient light, but not as sharply as a mirror. In bright daylight or under direct spotlights, some reflection is visible. Positioning the print on a wall perpendicular to windows rather than directly opposite minimises this.
Can the print be cleaned?
Yes. Wipe the glass surface with a dry microfibre cloth or a glass cleaner and lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or rough materials that could scratch the surface.
What room does it suit?
The 100cm square format works in hallways, above sideboards or console tables in dining rooms, and as a centrepiece on large living room walls. It needs at least 120cm of clear wall space horizontally and vertically to avoid appearing cramped.
