Description

The Lumos is a 95mm diameter recessed downlight frame in black aluminium, designed as the housing component of Ideal Lux's modular downlight system. The frame sits flush with the ceiling once installed and provides the structural mount for separately-sold light modules, reflectors, lenses and screens that clip or screw into place behind it.

Installed in ceilings across living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms and commercial spaces, the frame acts as the fixed architectural element while the light source and optical components remain interchangeable. This modular approach means the light output, beam angle and colour temperature can be changed later by swapping the insert rather than replacing the entire fitting. When fitted with compatible modules the assembly achieves IP54 front protection, making it suitable for bathrooms (zones 1 and 2) and other areas exposed to moisture and dust.

The black finish on the aluminium provides a visible contrast against white or light-coloured ceilings, or can be specified to match darker ceiling treatments where a flush, near-invisible installation is preferred. The frame itself weighs less than 100g and requires a ceiling cut-out of approximately 80mm diameter, with a minimum plenum depth of 60mm above the ceiling depending on the light module selected. The aluminium construction conducts heat away from the lamp module, which is critical when pairing with higher-wattage LED inserts.

Does this include the light source?

No. The Lumos frame is sold separately from the light module. You need to purchase a compatible Ideal Lux light insert, reflector or lens module to complete the fitting and produce light.

What ceiling cut-out size is required?

The frame requires an approximately 80mm diameter cut-out in the ceiling. The visible outer diameter once installed is 95mm. Minimum plenum depth above the ceiling depends on the light module you pair with the frame, typically 60-80mm.

Is it suitable for bathrooms?

When installed with a compatible IP54-rated light module, the complete assembly achieves IP54 front protection, making it suitable for bathroom zones 1 and 2. The frame alone does not carry an IP rating until paired with the appropriate module.

Can I change the light module later?

Yes. The modular design allows you to swap the light insert, reflector or lens without removing the frame from the ceiling. This means you can change beam angle, colour temperature or light output by replacing only the module.
