Description
The Karven is an 8-light Georgian chandelier built around a central chrome column with eight curved glass arms radiating outward in two tiers, each arm fitted with an SES candle bulb holder. Lead crystal droplets cascade from the lower tier in swag formations, with additional crystal strands suspended from a crown tier above the canopy, and a final crystal drop hanging beneath the lower tier. The chrome frame is polished to a mirror finish that reflects light from the eight bulbs and amplifies the refractive properties of the cut crystal.
Designed for dining rooms, entrance halls and drawing rooms with ceiling heights of 2.7m or higher, the Karven suits Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian interiors where architectural symmetry is a feature. The 55cm diameter works over dining tables seating six to eight, or centred in hallways 3-4m wide. The total drop of 73cm from ceiling rose to lowest crystal requires adequate headroom — positioning the chandelier 2.1m or more above floor level prevents the lower crystals being at head height in circulation spaces.
Each crystal droplet is hand-cut lead crystal, which has a higher refractive index than standard glass and produces sharper prismatic colour separation when light passes through. The Georgian scroll arms are moulded clear glass rather than metal, maintaining transparency across the entire structure. The 8.5kg total weight requires a ceiling rose and joist capable of supporting the load, and the chandelier arrives with a chrome ceiling rose, chain and all necessary fixings for installation on UK standard ceilings.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does the Karven take?
The chandelier takes eight SES (Small Edison Screw, E14 base) candle bulbs, each rated up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit warm-white LED candle bulbs at 4-6W equivalent brightness and 2700K colour temperature to replicate traditional candlelight appearance.
What ceiling height is needed?
The 73cm drop from ceiling rose to lowest crystal requires a ceiling height of at least 2.7m to maintain 2m clearance beneath the chandelier. Higher ceilings of 3m or more allow the piece to be appreciated at full scale without feeling low-hung.
Is the chandelier dimmable?
Dimmer compatibility depends on the bulbs fitted. Dimmable LED candle bulbs paired with a compatible LED dimmer switch will allow brightness control. Confirm bulb and dimmer compatibility before purchase if dimming is required.
How is the crystal cleaned?
Lead crystal is cleaned with warm distilled water and a soft microfibre cloth. For deeper cleaning, a solution of one part white vinegar to three parts distilled water can be used, applied with a lint-free cloth and buffed dry immediately. Avoid commercial glass cleaners that contain ammonia or silicone, as these leave residue that dulls the crystal over time.
