Description

The JCB AA R6 is a zinc carbon battery supplied in a 10-pack blister, rated at 1.5V per cell. Zinc carbon chemistry suits devices with low to moderate drain that operate intermittently rather than continuously — wall clocks, TV remote controls, basic torches, radio controls and simple battery-operated toys.

Designed for households, offices and light commercial environments where a practical supply of batteries is needed for everyday devices, the 10-pack format provides spares without requiring bulk storage. Zinc carbon cells deliver adequate output for devices that spend most of their operational life in standby or very low current draw, but they deplete faster than alkaline alternatives under continuous or high-drain loads.

Each AA cell measures 14.5mm diameter by 50.5mm height, fitting standard AA compartments in remote controls, clocks and similar devices. The packaging clearly marks the batteries as unsuitable for digital cameras or motorised devices — both of which demand higher sustained current than zinc carbon chemistry can efficiently provide. The JCB branding indicates compliance with standard R6 specifications for dimensional and voltage compatibility.

Frequently Asked

What devices are these batteries suited to?

Zinc carbon AA batteries work well in low-drain, intermittent-use devices like wall clocks, TV remote controls, basic torches and simple toys. They are not recommended for digital cameras, motorised toys, gaming controllers or other high-drain devices — those require alkaline or rechargeable cells.

How do zinc carbon batteries differ from alkaline?

Zinc carbon cells are cheaper but store less total energy and perform poorly under continuous or high current loads. Alkaline batteries last significantly longer in most devices and handle higher drain, but cost more per cell. Zinc carbon is a cost-effective choice only where usage is very light and intermittent.

What is the shelf life?

Zinc carbon batteries typically hold charge for 1-2 years in storage, shorter than alkaline equivalents. Store them in a cool, dry location and check expiry dates on the packaging before use in critical devices.

Can these be used in smoke alarms?

No. Smoke alarms require reliable long-term standby power and periodic high-drain testing. Use alkaline or lithium AA batteries in smoke alarms, as recommended by most alarm manufacturers.
