Description

The Drift is an 87cm island chandelier built around six G9 bulb fittings, each surrounded by vertical chrome blades and cut crystal prisms arranged in alternating sequence along the length of the polished chrome frame. The outer chrome fins run parallel to one another, creating a structured ribbed profile, while the inner crystal elements diffuse light through the spaces between the metal.

Designed for kitchen islands, dining tables and breakfast bars, the Drift sits 700-900mm above the work surface or table depending on ceiling height. The horizontal span of 87cm covers a typical 1.8-2.4m island or six-seater dining table without overpowering the space. The fixture suspends on steel cables from an oval polished chrome canopy that conceals the ceiling fixing and cable entry point.

The combination of polished chrome and cut crystal creates a sharp contrast between mirror-reflective surfaces and faceted refractive glass. Under artificial light, the crystal prisms throw small spots of refracted light onto adjacent walls and ceilings, while the chrome blades reflect the light source directly. At 9.4kg, the fitting requires a secure ceiling fixing into a joist or load-bearing point rather than plasterboard alone.

Frequently Asked

What bulbs does the Drift take?

The fitting takes six G9 capsule bulbs, sold separately. Most users pair this with 2.5W-4W warm-white LED G9 bulbs between 2700K-3000K for ambient dining or kitchen lighting. Higher-wattage halogen G9 bulbs are also compatible if brighter task lighting is needed.

What drop height works above a dining table?

The typical installation height is 700-800mm between the table surface and the underside of the crystal. This provides clearance for seated diners while keeping the light within effective range. For kitchen islands used as prep zones, 800-900mm is more practical to avoid head clearance issues.

Is the crystal real or acrylic?

The prisms are cut crystal glass rather than acrylic, giving sharper refraction and better clarity under light. This also means the fitting carries more weight than acrylic equivalents and requires secure ceiling fixing.

How is the chrome maintained?

Polished chrome shows fingerprints and dust more readily than brushed finishes. Wipe with a dry microfibre cloth regularly, or a barely-damp cloth for stubborn marks. Avoid spray cleaners or abrasive materials that can scratch the mirror finish.
