Description

The Caelis is a 12 light chandelier built on a three-tier polished nickel frame with twelve optical glass shades arranged in a 70cm diameter symmetrical composition. Each glass shade sits at the end of a nickel arm, refracting light from a G9 bulb (sold separately) through faceted optical glass that scatters light across a wider arc than standard clear glass. Crystal droplets hang from the junction points between tiers, adding prismatic reflections when the chandelier is lit.

Designed for dining rooms with ceiling heights of 2.7m or above, double-height hallways and stairwell voids where the full three-tier structure can be seen from multiple angles, the Caelis provides both ambient and decorative function. The 47cm drop from ceiling rose to base sits approximately 2.2-2.3m above floor level in a standard-height room, placing the chandelier at head height when viewed from a mezzanine or gallery landing. The total weight of 10kg requires a ceiling joist or reinforced ceiling rose rated for chandelier loads.

The polished nickel finish on the metalwork provides a cooler-toned alternative to brass or gold, pairing with grey, white, stone and dark wood interiors without introducing warm metallic tones. The optical glass shades are cut with faceted edges that catch and redirect candlelight-style bulb glow, giving a more diffused light pattern than traditional chandelier candles with exposed filaments. The symmetrical three-tier arrangement distributes the twelve lights evenly across the frame, avoiding visual weight concentrating at one level.

Frequently Asked

What bulbs does the Caelis take?

The chandelier takes twelve G9 capsule bulbs with a maximum combined wattage of 33W. Most users fit twelve 2-3W LED G9 bulbs in warm white (2700K-3000K) to achieve ambient dining room light without exceeding the wattage limit. Bulbs are sold separately.

What ceiling height is needed?

The 47cm drop plus the 70cm diameter means the chandelier works best in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.7m or above. In a standard 2.4m-height room the chandelier would hang too low over a dining table. The Caelis is better suited to double-height spaces, stairwells or rooms with vaulted ceilings where the three-tier structure can be appreciated from multiple viewing angles.

Can the chandelier be installed on a sloped ceiling?

The Caelis is designed for horizontal ceiling installation. Fitting to a sloped ceiling would require a separate sloped ceiling adaptor (not included) to keep the chandelier level and prevent the frame tilting.

How is the optical glass cleaned?

The faceted optical glass shades can be wiped with a dry microfibre cloth while the chandelier is switched off and cool. For more stubborn marks, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water is acceptable. Avoid spraying glass cleaner directly onto the shades as overspray may tarnish the nickel metalwork or damage the crystal droplets.
