Description

The Alvera is a 22cm crystal flush ceiling light with a chrome frame that sits 15.5cm down from the ceiling, housing two G9 bulb fittings behind vertical crystal prisms and faceted droplets. The chrome base forms a rectangular gallery topped with a row of square-faceted crystals, while vertical prisms of varying lengths hang from the gallery and smaller round-cut droplets suspend below. Each crystal refracts the G9 light into multiple reflections across walls and ceiling surfaces.

Designed for rooms with ceiling heights below 2.4m where a pendant would hang too low, the Alvera works in bedrooms, hallways, dressing rooms and en-suites. The 12.5cm projection from ceiling to lowest crystal means the fitting sits clear of doorways and head height in most residential spaces. The two G9 bulbs (sold separately) provide directional light through the crystal without flooding the room, making this more accent lighting than full ambient coverage.

The vertical prisms are hand-cut glass, not acrylic, giving sharper refraction than moulded alternatives. The chrome finish is polished rather than brushed, so it reflects light back into the crystals and produces more sparkle under both daylight and electric light. The combined weight of the chrome frame and glass crystals is 2.1kg, requiring secure fixing to a ceiling joist or reinforced plasterboard anchor rather than a standard lightweight toggle.

The fitting takes two G9 capsule bulbs up to 28W each (sold separately). Most users pair this with LED G9 bulbs in warm white (2700K-3000K) at around 3-5W per bulb for accent lighting rather than full room illumination.

Is it suitable for low ceilings?

Yes. The 15.5cm height and 12.5cm projection make the Alvera suitable for rooms with ceiling heights as low as 2.2m, where the lowest crystal droplet still clears head height by a comfortable margin.

How is the fitting secured to the ceiling?

The 2.1kg weight requires a solid fixing point. Install into a ceiling joist using wood screws, or use heavy-duty plasterboard anchors rated to at least 5kg if fixing to hollow plasterboard. The chrome backplate conceals the fixing points once installed.

Can the crystals be cleaned?

Yes. The vertical prisms and droplets can be wiped with a dry microfibre cloth while the fitting is switched off and cool. For heavier dust build-up, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water works, but avoid soaking the chrome frame or letting water run into the bulb holders.
