Description
This SMD LED strip puts spaced SMD diodes along a flexible 5 metre reel, drawing up to 14.4W per metre. It carries full RGB colour, so the run shifts through reds, greens, blues and the colour mixes in between rather than holding one fixed tone, making it suited to accent and mood lighting where the shade needs to change. What American buyers often call led tape light is the same product, a thin self-adhesive strip that follows the line you stick it to. It runs from a 12V DC supply, and the strip cuts to length only at the marked points along the reel so you can trim it to the exact span you need.
Because the light reads as a continuous coloured line rather than a broad wash, it works best as outline and edge lighting rather than as the main light for a room. Typical places are under kitchen cabinets, along shelf edges, behind a TV unit or headboard, around a cove or coffered ceiling, and down the side of a stairwell or plinth. At IP54 it shrugs off splashes and damp, so a sheltered porch, a covered patio edge or a utility area sits within its limits, though it is not for direct hosing or full exposure to driving rain. Position it where the diodes graze a surface and the colour spreads, and keep it clear of standing water.
The strip is built on a flexible board with a self-adhesive backing for a straight, low-profile fix along most edges. It is a 12V DC strip, so it is not mains-direct and needs a matching 12V LED driver, sized to the total wattage of the length you install and sold separately unless supplied as a kit. Rated for around 15,000 hours, the RGB output is controlled through a compatible RGB controller. We also stock the driver and controller pairings alongside this reel to complete the run.

Frequently Asked
Does this LED strip need a separate driver?
Yes. It is a 12V DC strip, so it does not run straight from a wall socket. You need a 12V LED driver rated to the total wattage of the length you fit, which at up to 14.4W per metre means sizing the driver to your run. The driver is sold separately unless the strip comes as a kit.
Can the strip be cut to length?
Yes. The reel is cut-to-length, but only at the marked cut points spaced along the strip. Cut on the line and the remaining section stays usable. Avoid cutting between the marks, as this leaves an unpowered segment.
Can it be used outdoors or in damp areas?
It is rated IP54, which covers splashes and damp such as a sheltered porch, a covered patio edge or a utility space. It is not built for direct water jets, full exposure to rain or submersion, so keep it out of those conditions. For fully exposed outdoor runs choose an IP65 coated strip instead.
How do I change the colours on an RGB strip?
The RGB output is set through a compatible RGB controller wired between the driver and the strip. From there you can pick a static colour, mix shades or run fades and effects depending on the controller. Pair the strip, driver and controller so all three match the 12V supply.
