This LED rope light is a round, flexible encased tube that gives a continuous line of red light along its full 5 metre length. It draws 10W in total and is fed through its connection kit rather than cut like a bare strip, so the whole run lights as one even ribbon. Sometimes called rope light or led rope light in the trade, it is the encased, weatherproof cousin of flat led strip lights, shaped to bend round corners and follow the line of whatever it traces. Can this rope light be used outdoors?

Yes. It carries an IP65 rating, which means it is sealed against dust and water jets and is suitable for exposed outdoor and wet locations. That makes it well suited to eaves, railings, patios and garden features that see rain.

Does it need any extra parts to run?

It is fed through its connection and controller kit rather than wired straight to a socket, and it runs at 210V DC. The supply is carried along the encased tube from that connection point, so you run it from the kit rather than cutting it like a bare strip.

Can the rope light be cut to length?

It is supplied as a sealed 5 metre encased tube fed from its connection kit, so it is not cut freely like an open-ended led strip. Plan the run around the 5 metre length, using clips or a channel to shape it along the outline you want to mark.

How should the rope light be cleaned?

Switch it off and let it cool, then wipe the casing with a soft, damp cloth to clear dust, leaves and grime. Avoid harsh solvents on the tube, and make sure it is dry before switching back on, even though the IP65 seal copes with weather.
