Description

The Gibbons is a 90cm diameter skeleton wall clock with exposed moving cogs visible through the open frame, Roman numeral hour markers around a cutaway dial ring, and a matt black painted iron construction. The clock mechanism runs on one AA battery, while the decorative moving cogs in the centre are powered separately by one 1.5V D-cell battery, creating independent motion that adds visual interest to the piece.

Designed as a statement piece for living rooms, dining areas, hallways and commercial spaces with wall heights of 3m or above, the 90cm diameter makes the clock readable from across a room while the open skeleton construction keeps the visual weight lighter than a solid metal disc of the same size. The Roman numerals sit proud of the frame on individual spokes radiating from the centre, and the decorative border detail adds architectural character without cluttering the dial.

The iron frame is finished in a matt black paint that shows slight tonal variation across the surface, giving a hand-finished industrial appearance rather than a machine-applied gloss. At 4.5kg the clock requires secure wall fixing into a masonry wall or into timber studs behind plasterboard — the 7.5cm depth projection means the clock sits slightly forward from the wall rather than flush-mounted. The clock produces a gentle ticking sound from the mechanism, which is noticeable in quiet rooms.

Frequently Asked

Do the cogs actually move?

Yes. The central cogs are powered by a separate 1.5V D-cell battery and rotate independently of the clock hands. This is a decorative feature rather than part of the timekeeping mechanism.

What batteries does it need?

The clock requires two batteries: one AA battery for the timekeeping mechanism and clock hands, and one 1.5V D-cell battery to power the moving cogs. Batteries are not included.

Does it make a ticking sound?

Yes. The clock mechanism produces a gentle ticking sound that is noticeable in quiet rooms. If you need a silent clock for a bedroom or study, this may not be suitable.

How is it mounted to the wall?

At 4.5kg the clock needs secure wall fixing. For masonry walls use appropriate wall plugs and screws into brick or block. For plasterboard walls locate timber studs and fix directly into those, or use heavy-duty plasterboard fixings rated to 5kg or above.
