Description

The Apo is a 28cm spherical vase cast in aluminium with an openwork coral pattern covering approximately two-thirds of the surface. The cast metal mimics the branching structure of natural coral, with irregular organic apertures running across the sphere's upper hemisphere and sides. The raw silver finish is left unsealed, giving the surface a soft metallic sheen with slight tonal variation across the raised coral detail and the smooth base sections.

Designed as a decorative object rather than a functional water-holding vase, the Apo suits coffee tables, console tables, side tables and shelving in coastal, contemporary and transitional interiors. The 26cm height and spherical form give the piece presence without dominating smaller surfaces. The openwork pattern creates shadow play when placed near a window or accent light, adding visual interest beyond the static form. The vase works as a standalone sculptural piece or can hold dried stems, branches or faux botanicals that don't require water.

The aluminium construction keeps the weight to 1.55kg despite the 28cm diameter, making it easy to reposition during styling or cleaning. The raw finish on the aluminium will develop a subtle patina over time with handling and exposure to air, which is a characteristic of unsealed aluminium rather than a defect. The coral motif pairs naturally with coastal and beach-house schemes but also complements modern interiors where organic metalwork adds textural contrast to cleaner lines.

Frequently Asked

Can this vase hold water?

No. The openwork coral pattern means the vase is not watertight. It's designed for dried stems, faux botanicals, or to be displayed empty as a sculptural piece.

Does the raw aluminium finish tarnish?

Unsealed raw aluminium develops a natural patina over time with exposure to air and handling. This is a characteristic of the material rather than deterioration. To maintain the brighter silver tone, wipe occasionally with a dry microfibre cloth.

What weight can the coral openwork support?

The openwork sections are decorative and not load-bearing. Avoid placing heavy objects on top of the vase or pressing down on the coral pattern, as the thin cast aluminium can bend or distort under pressure.

How is it cleaned?

Dust gently with a soft dry brush or cloth to clear the apertures in the coral pattern. For deeper cleaning, use a barely-damp microfibre cloth with water only, avoiding harsh chemicals that may accelerate patina development or stain the raw aluminium.
