Description
The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang double pole switch controls fixed appliances rated up to 20A (4,600W) on 230V mains, including water heaters, cooker hoods, towel rails and dedicated appliance circuits. The polished brass flat plate sits just 2.5mm proud of the wall, with a matching brass rocker and no visible screw fixings once installed.
Designed for residential and commercial installation where fixed appliances need isolated switching, the double pole design breaks both live and neutral conductors when switched off, providing a higher level of isolation than single-pole switches. This makes it suitable for appliances that need to be completely de-energised for maintenance or safety. The switch fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and includes a built-in gasket that seals the plate edge to the wall surface.
The polished brass finish is lacquer-coated premium grade steel rather than solid brass, keeping the weight down while providing the warm metallic tone that pairs with traditional, classical and period interiors. The ultra-flat profile keeps the switch closer to the wall than standard plates, reducing projection in high-traffic areas like hallways and behind doors. Certified to EN 60669-1 and carrying a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked
What appliances can this switch control?
The 20A rating handles fixed appliances up to 4,600W on 230V circuits, including water heaters, electric towel rails, cooker hoods, wall-mounted convector heaters and dedicated washing machine or tumble dryer circuits. It is not suitable for cookers or ranges, which require 32A or 45A switches.
What does double pole mean?
Double pole switching breaks both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is in the off position, completely isolating the appliance from the mains supply. This provides a higher level of isolation than single-pole switches, which only break the live conductor, and is often required for appliances that need to be de-energised for maintenance.
What back box depth is required?
A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The flat plate projects just 2.5mm from the wall once fitted, making the total projection approximately 27.5mm from the wall surface.
Is the flat plate screwless?
No. This is a flat plate design, not a screwless design. The fixing screws are visible on the face of the plate. Knightsbridge produces separate screwless ranges if a screw-free finish is required.
