Description
The York is a single-light outdoor wall lantern cast in die-cast aluminium with a black powder-coated finish, designed around the proportions of a traditional English coach lantern. The lantern hangs downward from a scrolled bracket arm and backplate, with four clear textured glass panels enclosing the E27 bulb fitting inside the frame. The glass texture diffuses light outward while maintaining visibility of the bulb itself, characteristic of period coach lantern design.
Designed for mounting beside front doors, porch entrances, garage sides and along garden walls, the York provides downward-directed light onto pathways, doorsteps and patio areas. The IP23 rating protects against vertically-falling rain and solid objects above 12.5mm, making it suitable for covered porches, recessed doorways and under-eave positions where the lantern is not directly exposed to driving rain. The E27 fitting accepts standard Edison screw bulbs up to 60W (sold separately), allowing flexibility to choose LED, filament or halogen light sources depending on preferred colour temperature and brightness.
The die-cast aluminium construction gives the lantern durability against corrosion and impact without the weight of solid metal, and the black finish is applied as a powder coat bonded to the metal surface rather than painted. The scrolled bracket arm extends approximately 200mm from the wall, positioning the lantern forward of the mounting surface to cast light downward without shadowing from the backplate. The clear textured glass is replaceable if damaged, though the metal frame and bracket are fixed as a single assembly.
Frequently Asked
What bulb does it take?
The York takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for a period-appropriate glow.
Is it suitable for exposed outdoor positions?
The IP23 rating protects against vertically-falling rain and is suitable for covered porches, recessed doorways and under-eave positions. It is not rated for direct exposure to driving rain or hose-down cleaning, so avoid fully-exposed wall positions without overhead protection.
How far does the bracket extend from the wall?
The scrolled bracket arm projects approximately 200mm from the wall mounting surface, positioning the lantern forward to cast downward light without shadowing from the backplate.
Can the glass be replaced if broken?
Yes. The clear textured glass panels are replaceable. Contact Elstead Lighting or Niori for replacement glass panels if needed.
