Description
The Solyx is a 140mm square recessed LED wall light built from powder-coated die-cast aluminium with a white finish. An integrated 4W LED sits behind a clear tempered glass diffuser, casting warm 3000K light down or to the side depending on mounting position. The IP65 rating protects the internal components from water jets and dust ingress, making the fitting suitable for exposed exterior walls, garden boundaries, and pathway lighting.
Designed for outdoor installation where a flush wall finish is needed, the Solyx requires a recessed cavity behind the wall surface for the housing to sit within. The 140mm square faceplate mounts flush with brickwork, rendered walls or cladding, leaving only the glass diffuser and frame visible once fitted. Typical applications include marking steps and path edges, low-level illumination along driveways, and accent lighting on exterior house walls where a downward or side wash of light is wanted without a projecting fixture.
The die-cast aluminium body resists corrosion in coastal and wet climates, and the powder coating provides additional UV protection to prevent fading over time. The clear glass diffuser allows the full 4W output to reach the lit surface without significant loss through tinting or frosting. At 3000K, the light temperature sits in the warm white band, providing visibility without the stark blue cast of cooler LEDs. The non-dimmable driver simplifies installation on standard 230V mains circuits.

Frequently Asked
What does IP65 mean for outdoor use?
IP65 provides full protection from dust and low-pressure water jets from any direction. The Solyx can be installed on walls facing prevailing rain, near garden sprinklers, or in areas regularly hosed down. It is not submersible and should not be installed where standing water can pool around the faceplate.
What depth of recess is needed for installation?
The fitting projects 40mm from the wall face, so a cavity depth of at least 50mm behind the finished wall surface is needed to accommodate the housing and allow for cable entry. Check wall construction before ordering if installing in a cavity wall or on timber cladding.
Can it be mounted horizontally or vertically?
The square format allows mounting in any orientation. The light output is directional, so positioning determines whether light is cast downwards (ideal for step edges and pathways), sideways (for wall washing), or upwards (for accent lighting under eaves or canopies).
Is the LED replaceable?
No. The 4W LED is integrated into the driver and housing. Ideal Lux cover the LED under the 5-year warranty. Typical LED lifespan at 3000K is 30,000-50,000 hours, equivalent to 10-15 years of evening-only use.
