Description
The Balmoral is a 615mm-tall outdoor wall lantern in an old bronze finish, housing three E14 candle bulb fittings behind seeded glass panels. The lantern body is formed from die-cast metal with a pagoda-style pitched roof topped by a sphere finial, and a hinged front door that opens on brass pins for bulb access without removing the entire fixture from the wall.
Designed for UK front doors, porch entrances, garage sides and garden pathway lighting, the Balmoral carries an IP44 rating for protection against splashing water from any direction. The 277mm width and 170mm projection suit standard masonry walls and rendered facades, with the wall plate concealing the cable entry and mounting screws. The three E14 bulbs (sold separately) provide a combined output suitable for illuminating a 2-3m entrance area or doorstep.
The old bronze finish is a dark brown-bronze patina that weathers to a darker tone in exposed conditions, pairing well with brick, stone, painted render and timber cladding in both traditional and Arts and Crafts-style homes. The seeded glass has a bubbled texture that diffuses the light from the candle bulbs, reducing glare while maintaining enough output for safe navigation of steps and pathways. The hinged door mechanism uses a simple clasp that opens without tools, making seasonal bulb replacement straightforward.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does the Balmoral take?
The lantern takes three E14 small Edison screw candle bulbs, each rated up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with 4-6W LED candle bulbs in warm white (2700K-3000K) to achieve the look of traditional candle flames while keeping energy use low.
Is it weatherproof for UK conditions?
Yes. The IP44 rating provides protection against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for installation on external walls exposed to rain. The lantern should not be installed in positions where it will sit in standing water or be submerged.
How is the door opened for bulb changes?
The front glass panel is mounted in a hinged metal frame that opens on brass pins. A simple clasp at the base releases the door, allowing access to all three bulb holders without needing to dismount the lantern from the wall or use tools.
What wall construction is needed?
The lantern mounts to a standard masonry wall using screws through the rear wall plate. For brick, stone or concrete walls use wall plugs rated for the lantern's weight plus bulbs (approximately 3-4kg total). For timber cladding or weatherboarding, screw directly into studs or use appropriate fixings for the substrate.
