Description
This Knightsbridge 13A plug top in black polypropylene houses a replaceable 13A fuse and uses a screw-type cord grip to secure the cable entry. The plug accepts UK three-core mains cable (live, neutral, earth) and is certified to BS 1363-2 with BSI Kitemark approval, meeting UK safety standards for domestic plugs rated up to 13A and 230V 50Hz.
Designed for general household appliance use, the plug suits kettles, toasters, lamps, TVs, power tools and other equipment drawing up to 3,000W. The screw cord grip inside the plug body clamps the outer sheath of the cable, preventing strain on the internal wire connections if the cable is pulled or tugged during use. This is a more secure method than friction-grip plugs, which rely on pressure alone to hold the cable.
The black finish provides a neutral alternative to white plugs in darker or industrial-style interiors, behind furniture, or on equipment where a black cable and plug create a cleaner visual line. The polypropylene body is Class I construction with an earth terminal, rated IP20 for indoor dry-location use. Dimensions are 52mm height, 50mm width, 42mm depth with a 20mm projection from the wall when plugged in.

Frequently Asked
What cable size does this plug accept?
The plug accepts standard UK three-core mains cable with a typical outer diameter of 6-8mm. The screw cord grip clamps the cable sheath securely once tightened during wiring.
Is the fuse replaceable?
Yes. The plug contains a standard 13A BS 1362 fuse that can be replaced if it blows. Replacement fuses are widely available and should match the 13A rating unless a lower rating is required for specific low-power appliances.
What's the difference between screw and friction cord grips?
A screw cord grip uses a screw-down clamp to physically secure the cable sheath inside the plug, providing stronger strain relief. Friction grips rely on the plug halves pressing the cable in place, which can loosen over time if the cable is pulled.
Can this be used outdoors?
No. The IP20 rating means the plug is suitable for indoor dry locations only. Outdoor use requires a plug and socket with a minimum IP44 rating and weatherproof enclosure.
