Description

The Knightsbridge 32A key card switch is a single-gang hotel room power control in a smoked bronze screwless faceplate with a backlit pink arrow indicator. When a key card is inserted into the horizontal slot, the switch activates power to the room's lighting circuits and socket outlets. Withdrawing the card triggers a 30-second delay before power is cut, allowing occupants to exit with enough light to reach the door.

Designed for hotel, apart-hotel, student accommodation and serviced apartment installation, the switch fits a standard 47mm minimum back box and uses Knightsbridge's screwless cover plate system with a built-in gasket for a flush, clean-edge finish. The 32A rating handles the combined load of lighting, sockets and other room circuits without requiring separate isolation for individual outlets. The backlit arrow helps occupants locate the card slot in a dark room on first entry.

The smoked bronze finish is a dark metallic brown that sits between graphite and copper tones, pairing well with contemporary hospitality interiors using warm metallics, dark woods and neutral colour palettes. The low-profile design projects just 4.3mm from the wall once installed, reducing the risk of snagging on luggage or housekeeping trolleys. The switch carries EN 60669-1 certification and is rated for 230V 50Hz mains supply with an earth terminal for safe connection to UK wiring standards.

Frequently Asked

How does the 30-second delay work?

When the key card is removed from the slot, the switch waits 30 seconds before cutting power to the room circuits. This gives occupants time to exit with lighting still active. The delay is fixed and cannot be adjusted in the field.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 47mm back box depth is needed for safe installation. The switch has a recessed depth of 31.5mm and projects just 4.3mm from the wall once the screwless cover plate is fitted.

Does it work with all key card types?

The switch accepts standard plastic key cards of the type used in most hotel electronic lock systems. Card thickness compatibility is typically 0.76mm (CR80 standard), but check the specification sheet if using non-standard card stock.

What does the backlit arrow indicate?

The pink arrow on the top of the card slot shows which way to insert the card and helps occupants locate the switch in a dark room before power is activated. The indicator is a neon or LED backlight that draws minimal standby power.
