Lumos Square Downlight Frame - White 100mm

The Lumos is a 100mm square downlight frame in white powder-coated aluminium, designed as a modular recessed fitting that accepts interchangeable GU10 lampholders, reflectors, lenses and screens. The frame sits flush with the ceiling plaster and provides a clean 100mm square aperture for the light source, replacing traditional round downlight bezels with an architectural square profile.

Designed for residential and commercial installation in living rooms, hallways, bathrooms, kitchens and retail spaces, the Lumos pairs with modular inserts from the Ideal Lux Lumos system to deliver ambient downlighting, narrow-beam accent lighting, or anti-glare task lighting depending on the chosen insert. The IP54 rating on the front face when installed means the frame resists moisture and dust ingress, making it suitable for bathrooms (outside of shower zones) and kitchens where humidity and airborne particulates are present.

The white powder-coated aluminium finish provides a neutral match for white and light-painted ceilings, minimising visual interruption while adding a subtle geometric accent through the square aperture. The frame measures 100mm on each side, requiring a circular ceiling cut-out of approximately 90mm diameter for the housing to recess into. The modular design allows the lampholder or optical insert to be changed without removing the frame itself, simplifying bulb replacement and allowing lighting schemes to be adjusted after installation.

What light source does the Lumos frame accept?

The frame itself does not include a light source or lampholder. It is designed to accept modular inserts from the Ideal Lux Lumos system, including GU10 lampholders, fixed or directional inserts, reflectors and anti-glare screens. These inserts are sold separately and clip into the frame after installation.

What ceiling cut-out is required?

The frame requires a circular cut-out of approximately 90mm diameter in the ceiling plasterboard or plaster. The 100mm square faceplate then covers the cut-out and sits flush with the ceiling surface. Ceiling void depth depends on the specific insert chosen.

Is it suitable for bathroom use?

Yes, when installed the frame provides IP54 protection on the front face, resisting moisture and dust. This makes it suitable for bathrooms outside of shower zones (typically Zone 1 and Zone 2) and for kitchens. Always confirm the IP rating of the chosen insert as well, as some modular inserts may have different ratings.

Can the insert be changed after installation?

Yes. The modular design allows the lampholder or optical insert to be removed and replaced without removing the frame from the ceiling. This means you can change the light source type, beam angle, or optical configuration as your lighting needs change.
