Description

The Citronic UMK-7 is a complete USB recording kit built around a back electret condenser microphone. It connects straight to a PC or Mac over USB 2.0, so there's no need for a separate audio interface or phantom power supply. We've included everything you need to get set up, including the microphone, shock mount, pop filter, an articulated arm and a 1.5m USB type B to A lead. It works with any standard digital recording software suite.

The 16mm back electret capsule uses a cardioid polar pattern, picking up sound from the front while rejecting noise from the sides and rear. That makes it a sensible choice for vocals or single instruments where you want clean, focused pickup. The frequency response runs from 30Hz to 18kHz, with a signal to noise ratio of 78dB and a maximum SPL of 132dB, so it copes with louder sources without distorting. The microphone measures 157 x 46mm and weighs 206g on its own.

The kit includes a spider shock mount holder to isolate the microphone from knocks and vibration, plus a pop shield to reduce plosives on close vocal work. The articulated arm clamps to a worktop or desk, sometimes called a boom arm, and swings into position so you can angle the microphone where you need it. Power comes from the USB connection at 5V, keeping the setup tidy with a single cable to your computer. It's an affordable way to reach studio quality results at home without a cluttered rig.
