Description

The Cherub MM1-B is a mechanical metronome housed in a tough plastic case with a black finish. It uses a clockwork mechanism rather than batteries, so you wind it and let the pendulum keep time. The beat range runs from 40 to 208 bpm, covering everything from slow practice tempos through to fast passages.

Setting the tempo is done by sliding the pendulum weight up or down the arm to one of the pre-notched positions. The pendulum gives you a clear visual beat as well as an audible click, which many players find easier to follow than a purely audible signal. There is also a bell that can be set to mark different beat counts, so you can hear the first beat of each bar and keep track of your time signature.

The metal mechanism inside holds a tempo tolerance of under 1%, so the beat stays steady across a practice session once the metronome is wound. It measures 118 x 206 x 104mm and weighs 470g, giving it enough mass to sit firmly on a desk, piano top or music stand without wandering. It suits students and teachers who want a traditional beat demonstration without relying on power or an app, and the plastic housing stands up well to everyday handling.

Frequently Asked

Does the metronome need batteries?

No. The MM1-B uses a clockwork mechanism, so you wind it by hand and it keeps time without batteries or mains power.

What tempo range does it cover?

It runs from 40 to 208 bpm, set by moving the pendulum weight to the pre-notched positions along the arm.

Can it mark the first beat of a bar?

Yes. The built-in bell can be set to various beat counts, so it chimes on the first beat to help you follow your time signature.

How accurate is the tempo?

The tempo tolerance is under 1%, so the beat stays steady across a practice session once the metronome is wound.

Is it stable on a stand or piano?

At 470g and 118 x 206 x 104mm, it has enough weight to sit firmly on a desk, piano top or music stand.
