Description
The AV:Link M8S is an active subwoofer cabinet built around an 8 inch (20cm) reinforced cone driver with its own internal amplifier. Because the amplifier is built in, you don't need a separate power amp to run it. The active filter circuit handles the low frequency work, so the M8S takes care of the bottom end while your main speakers deal with the mid and top range. Rated output is 100W, with a peak output of 200W, and the driver runs at 4 Ohms.
Getting signal into the M8S is straightforward. You can use the twin RCA line level inputs, or take a feed from the speaker terminals of a stereo amplifier using the spring terminals, wiring it between the amp and your mid-top speakers. Two rotary controls let you set things up to suit your room and system. The cut-off frequency control adjusts anywhere from 45 to 150Hz, and the gain control sets the level. This gives you a simple way to blend the sub with the rest of your setup without overpowering it.
An Auto Off function keeps things tidy by switching the amplifier off when no signal is detected, which saves power when the system sits idle. The cabinet measures 300 x 330 x 300mm and weighs 7.44kg, so it's compact enough to tuck away yet solid in build. Frequency response runs from 50 to 250Hz, and the unit is powered from a 220-250Vac supply via a Fig 8 connector. Note that in the US a subwoofer is often shortened to 'sub', the same as here. It's a practical choice for adding low end to a home or background audio system.

Frequently Asked
Does the M8S need a separate amplifier?
No. The M8S has an integral amplifier built into the cabinet, so it powers the driver itself. You simply feed it a signal via the RCA line level inputs or the speaker level terminals.
What inputs does it have?
It offers twin RCA line level inputs and speaker level input terminals. The speaker level option lets you wire it between a stereo amplifier and your mid-top speakers using the spring terminals.
Can I adjust the crossover point?
Yes. A rotary cut-off frequency control lets you set the crossover anywhere from 45 to 150Hz, and there's a separate gain control to set the level.
What does the Auto Off function do?
When no incoming signal is detected, the Auto Off function deactivates the amplifier to conserve energy. It comes back on once a signal returns.
What size is the driver?
The M8S uses a 20cm (8 inch) reinforced cone driver rated at 4 Ohms, with 100W rated output power and 200W peak output.
How big and heavy is the cabinet?
The cabinet measures 300 x 330 x 300mm and weighs 7.44kg, making it compact enough to position discreetly.
