Description

The Adastra EC56V-B is a metal-framed ceiling speaker built for 100V line systems, the kind used across shops, offices, cafes and other spaces where you want even background sound. It uses a quick-fit mechanism that clamps into place from below, so once you've cut the hole you can mount the speaker into almost any material without needing to reach behind the ceiling. The frame is all metal and the grille sits flush against the surface for a tidy finish in matt black.

Inside is a 5.25 inch driver paired with a 100V line transformer, tapped at 1.5W, 3W and 6W. Those tappings let you set the output of each speaker to suit the room, which is handy when you're wiring several units on a single line and want some areas louder or quieter than others. The speaker gives an SPL of 90dB at 1W/1m with a frequency response of 110Hz to 13kHz and a dispersion angle of 155 degrees, so coverage is wide enough for speech and general music playback.

Mounting depth is 57mm and each speaker weighs 638g, so it fits comfortably into most suspended ceilings (also called drop ceilings). The slimline grille keeps the profile low once installed. If you're putting together a 100V distributed audio setup and want a straightforward, hard-wearing speaker that goes in quickly, the EC56V-B does the job without any fuss.

Frequently Asked

What does 100V line mean?

It's a distributed audio system that lets you run many speakers from one amplifier over long cable distances. Each speaker uses a transformer with power tappings, so you set the volume per speaker rather than at the amp alone.

What are the power tappings on the EC56V-B?

The transformer is tapped at 1.5W, 3W and 6W. You choose the tapping to match how loud you want each speaker, which is useful when several are wired on the same line.

How much space do I need above the ceiling?

The mounting depth is 57mm, so you need at least that much clearance behind the ceiling surface for the speaker body to sit.

Is it easy to install?

Yes. The quick-fit mechanism clamps the speaker into place from below once the hole is cut, so you don't need access from above. It suits almost any ceiling material.

What size is the driver?

It's a 5.25 inch driver, giving a frequency response of 110Hz to 13kHz and a dispersion angle of 155 degrees for wide coverage.

Can I run it from a standard hi-fi amplifier?

No. This is a 100V line speaker and needs a 100V line amplifier or a mixer amplifier with a 100V output.
