Description

The Mercury 2-core figure-8 bell cable is a 100m reel of low-voltage wiring with copper clad steel (CCS) conductors inside a white PVC sheath. The figure-8 profile separates the two cores side-by-side, allowing the cable to be split easily where branch connections are needed without stripping the full outer sheath. Each core has a 0.196mm² cross-sectional area and is rated for a maximum continuous current of 1A.

Designed for doorbell circuits, intercom systems, access control wiring and other low-voltage signalling applications, the cable suits residential, commercial and light industrial installation. The CCS conductor replaces traditional solid copper with a steel core clad in copper, reducing material cost while maintaining adequate conductivity for signal and control circuits. The white PVC sheath allows the cable to blend into painted surfaces, skirting runs and internal conduit.

The 100m reel provides enough length to wire multiple doorbell positions or to run circuits across medium-sized buildings without joins. The 2 x 4mm diameter keeps the cable profile low enough to tuck under carpets, behind skirting and through tight wall cavities. At 1.3kg for the full 100m reel, the cable is light enough to handle during installation without additional support or cable management beyond basic clips.

Frequently Asked

What is copper clad steel (CCS)?

CCS is a conductor type where a steel core wire is clad with a thin layer of copper. This reduces material cost compared to solid copper while maintaining enough conductivity for low-current signalling circuits such as doorbells and intercoms. CCS is not suitable for mains voltage or high-current applications.

What voltage is this cable rated for?

The cable is designed for low-voltage circuits typical of doorbell and intercom systems, generally 12V-24V AC/DC. It is not rated for mains voltage (230V) and must not be used for power distribution.

Can the two cores be separated?

Yes. The figure-8 profile allows the two cores to be pulled apart along the length of the cable where branch connections or individual core runs are needed, without stripping the outer sheath first.

Is this suitable for outdoor use?

The white PVC sheath provides basic moisture resistance but is not UV-stabilised or weatherproof to BS standards. For outdoor runs, the cable should be installed inside conduit or trunking to protect it from direct sunlight and standing water.

Shipping & Returns

Free worldwide delivery

Free worldwide delivery on all orders over £99. International orders for third-party brand products may be subject to an additional courier surcharge based on volumetric weight, particularly on larger lighting fixtures — if a surcharge applies, our team will email you with the amount before dispatch and you can proceed or cancel for a full refund. See full delivery terms.

Returns

30-day returns window from delivery. As all our products are electrical or lighting goods, returned items must be inspected and recertified by a qualified electrician before resale — the cost of this inspection (25–40% of the item value) is deducted from your refund. Customers pay return shipping. Made-to-order, special-order and clearance items cannot be returned. See full returns policy.
