BC and SBC explained

These are bayonet cap bulbs, the push-and-twist fitting common across UK homes. BC is the standard B22 bayonet found in most pendants, lamps and ceiling fittings. SBC is the smaller B15 version used in some wall lights, appliances and compact fixtures. Both push in and turn a quarter turn to lock, so the bulb cannot work loose. Check the pin spacing or the marking on your old bulb to tell the two apart before you order.

Bulb shapes

The range carries several shapes on these caps. GLS is the rounded everyday household bulb for main-room light. Candle and golf ball are smaller shapes for chandeliers, wall lights and shaded fittings where a full-size bulb would look too big. Filament versions show the LED strands behind clear glass for fittings where the bulb is on view, while plainer bulbs sit behind a shade.

Brightness and colour temperature

Wattages run from low-output bulbs up to brighter GLS lamps for living rooms and kitchens, with figures such as 1050 lumens marked on the higher-output models. Warm white at 2700K gives a soft glow, 3000K is a touch brighter, 4000K cool white reads cleaner, and 6500K daylight is the brightest and bluest. Pick the output to suit the size of the room and the warmth to suit how the space is used.

Dimming

Both dimmable and non-dimmable bulbs are stocked. If your fitting runs off a dimmer switch, choose a bulb marked dimmable so it adjusts smoothly without flicker or buzz. Non-dimmable bulbs are fine for ordinary on-off switches, and a colour-changing smart option is also available on the B22 cap for app and remote control.

How to choose

Confirm whether you need BC or SBC first, then pick the shape to suit the fitting and the output to suit the room. Match the dimming to your switch, and choose the colour temperature that fits the space. Free UK delivery over £99, worldwide shipping.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does BC and SBC mean?

BC is the standard bayonet cap, fitted with two pins that push in and twist to lock. SBC is the small bayonet version on a narrower neck, used in some lamps and appliance fittings. Match the cap on your old bulb to the new one before ordering.

Which colour temperature should I pick?

2700K warm white gives a soft, yellow-toned light for bedrooms and living rooms. 4000K cool white is crisper for kitchens and workspaces. 6500K daylight is the brightest and coolest, suited to studies and task areas. The range carries all three.

Are these bulbs dimmable?

Some are. Each bulb is listed as dimmable or non-dimmable, so check the title before buying. A dimmable bulb needs a compatible dimmer to run smoothly, while non-dimmable types should sit on a standard on-off switch.

How bright a bulb do I need?

Brightness is measured in lumens. Around 470lm suits a candle or accent fitting, 806lm is a typical 60W-equivalent for general use, and 1521lm and above replaces an old 100W bulb in larger rooms. Pick by the lumen figure rather than the wattage.
