Description

The Calipso is a fluted brass wall sconce built around a cylindrical aluminium shade with vertical ribbing that runs the full height of the cylinder. A circular brass wall plate holds the shade perpendicular to the wall, with the light source housed at the base of the cylinder behind a black diffuser. The fitting takes a single GU10 bulb up to 10W (sold separately), directing light downwards through the open base.

Designed for hallways, bedroom walls flanking beds, and as accent lighting in living rooms, the Calipso functions as both decorative and practical wash lighting. The fluted cylinder creates vertical shadow lines on adjacent walls when lit, adding textural interest to plain surfaces. The downward light throw suits highlighting wall-hung art positioned below the fitting or providing reading light above bedside tables when mounted at 1.5-1.8m from the floor.

The aluminium construction keeps the fitting lightweight at approximately 0.6kg, reducing strain on plasterboard fixings in modern construction. The brass finish shows a warm metallic tone with slight variation across the fluted surface as each ridge catches light differently. The IP20 rating restricts use to dry interior spaces away from bathrooms and outdoor exposure.
