Description

The Calipso is a directional wall sconce built around a vertically fluted aluminium cylinder finished in polished brass, mounted on a matching brass circular backplate. The cylinder houses a single GU10 fitting (bulb sold separately) that directs light downward through the open base of the shade, creating a focused pool of task or accent light on the wall below.

Designed for hallways, bedroom reading positions, stairwells and alcoves where directed light is needed without ceiling fixings, the wall light mounts flush to the wall via a 100mm diameter backplate. The fluted cylinder measures approximately 120mm height x 80mm diameter, projecting 90mm from the wall when fitted. The directional nature of the GU10 fitting makes it suitable for highlighting artwork, illuminating shelves, or providing bedside reading light when mounted 1400-1600mm from the floor.

The aluminium body is lightweight but rigid, with the vertical ribbing adding structural reinforcement and an Art Deco-influenced geometric pattern that creates alternating bands of light and shadow when the fitting is lit. The polished brass finish reflects warm tones under natural light and pairs with traditional, mid-century and contemporary brass hardware. IP20 rated for dry interior locations only.

What bulb does it take?

The wall light takes a single GU10 bulb up to 10W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED GU10 between 5-7W and 2700K-3000K for accent or task lighting.

Can the direction of light be adjusted?

The GU10 fitting inside the cylinder is fixed pointing downward through the open base of the shade. The light direction cannot be adjusted after installation, so mounting height and position determine where the light pool falls.

Is it suitable for bathrooms?

No. The IP20 rating means this wall light is only suitable for dry interior locations such as hallways, bedrooms, living rooms and dining rooms. It is not rated for bathroom zones or outdoor use.

How is it wired?

The wall light wires into standard UK mains wiring via a terminal block concealed behind the circular backplate. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with current IET Wiring Regulations.
