Calipso Ring Pendant Light - Brass

The Calipso fluted cylinder pendant light features a brass-finished aluminium body with vertical ribbing running the full length of the shade. The cylindrical form houses a single GU10 downlight fitting that directs light through the open base, making this a directional pendant for task lighting over kitchen islands, bar counters and dining tables. The fluted exterior catches light along its ridges, adding texture and visual depth when viewed from the side.

Designed for ceiling heights of 2.4m or above, the pendant typically hangs 700-900mm above a worktop or table surface depending on the drop length specified during installation. The narrow 100mm diameter cylinder keeps the visual footprint compact, allowing multiple pendants to be grouped in a row over a 2-3m island or counter without crowding the space. The downward-focused light from the GU10 bulb provides concentrated illumination for food preparation, dining or bar work rather than ambient room lighting.

The brass finish on the aluminium body provides warmth without the weight or cost of solid brass construction. The vertical fluting breaks up reflections and gives the pendant a textured appearance under daylight and artificial light. The IP20 rating limits the pendant to dry indoor spaces - not suitable for bathrooms or outdoor covered areas where moisture is present. The GU10 fitting accepts standard mains-voltage LED or halogen bulbs up to 10W (sold separately), giving flexibility to choose colour temperature and beam angle to suit the application.

What bulb does it take?

The pendant uses a standard GU10 mains-voltage bulb up to 10W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED GU10 between 5-10W and 2700K-3000K for task lighting over worktops and dining tables.

Is it dimmable?

The fitting itself is not dimmable. Dimmer compatibility depends on the specific GU10 bulb chosen. If you wish to dim the light, select a dimmable GU10 LED and pair with a compatible trailing-edge dimmer switch.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

No. The IP20 rating means the pendant is suitable for dry indoor spaces only. Bathrooms require IP44 minimum for zones 1 and 2, and IP65 for zone 0. This pendant is intended for kitchens, dining rooms, hallways and living spaces.

How many pendants are needed over a kitchen island?

For a 2-2.5m island, two pendants spaced 800-1000mm apart typically provide adequate task lighting. For a 3m island, three pendants spaced 900-1000mm apart are recommended. The narrow beam from the GU10 bulb concentrates light directly below each pendant rather than spreading across the full island length.
