Description

The Dip is a 415mm diameter honeycomb louvre grid manufactured from black-finished aluminium, designed to fit flush against recessed downlights and spotlights to control beam spread and reduce glare. The hexagonal cell structure restricts light emission to narrower angles, preventing direct view of the lamp when viewed from the side and channelling light downward in a more focused cone.

Used primarily in commercial offices, retail displays, galleries and high-specification residential interiors where glare control matters, the honeycomb grid clips or fixes into the aperture of compatible recessed fittings after installation. The 415mm diameter suits standard large recessed downlights in 400-450mm aperture ranges. The black finish absorbs stray reflections inside the cells, maintaining contrast and preventing the grid itself from becoming a bright visual distraction under high lamp outputs.

The aluminium construction keeps the grid lightweight at under 500g while maintaining dimensional stability when exposed to heat from LED or halogen lamps. Each hexagonal cell is approximately 10-12mm across, with cell depth proportioned to achieve a cut-off angle of around 45-50 degrees depending on lamp position. The grid does not change the colour temperature or output of the lamp, but reduces total light output by around 15-25% due to the physical obstruction of the cells blocking peripheral light rays.

Frequently Asked

What fittings does this grid suit?

The 415mm diameter suits recessed downlights with aperture ranges between 400-450mm. Check your fitting's aperture measurement before ordering to confirm compatibility. The grid typically clips or friction-fits into the downlight bezel after the lamp is installed.

How much does the grid reduce light output?

Honeycomb louvre grids reduce total light output by approximately 15-25% because the cell walls physically block peripheral light rays. The grid does not change colour temperature or lamp wattage, but the effective lumen output at floor level will be lower than an unfiltered fitting.

What cut-off angle does the grid provide?

The hexagonal cell depth is proportioned to achieve a cut-off angle of around 45-50 degrees depending on lamp position within the fitting. This means direct view of the lamp is blocked for anyone standing more than 45 degrees off-axis from the fitting centreline.

Can it be used with LED and halogen lamps?

Yes. The aluminium construction tolerates the heat output from both LED and halogen lamps without warping. The black finish does not fade or discolour under normal operating temperatures.
