Description

The Calipso is a recessed downlight with a white aluminium body and a directional cylindrical head housing a GU10 lamp holder. The head tilts within the recessed housing, allowing light to be angled towards walls, feature areas or work surfaces rather than straight down. The lamp holder accepts any standard GU10 LED or halogen bulb up to 10W (sold separately).

Designed for ceiling installation in living rooms, kitchens, corridors and commercial interiors, the Calipso requires a recessed void above the ceiling plane for the housing to sit in. The white powder-coated aluminium finish blends into white or light-painted ceilings, while the black interior of the cylindrical head reduces glare and hides the back of the bulb from view. The IP20 rating makes it suitable for dry indoor environments only.

The directional head allows each downlight to be aimed individually after installation, which is useful in kitchens where light can be directed onto worktops, or in retail and gallery settings where wall-mounted artwork or products need highlighting. The aluminium construction dissipates heat from the bulb efficiently, and the spring-clip retention system allows the fitting to be removed for bulb changes without tools.

What bulb does it take?

The Calipso takes a standard GU10 bulb up to 10W. GU10 LED bulbs are widely available in colour temperatures from 2700K warm white through to 6000K daylight white. Bulbs are sold separately.

Can the light direction be adjusted after installation?

Yes. The cylindrical head tilts within the recessed housing, allowing the beam to be angled towards walls, surfaces or feature areas rather than pointing straight down.

What ceiling void depth is needed?

Recessed downlights typically require a void depth of 80-120mm above the ceiling surface to accommodate the housing and lamp holder. Check the cut-out dimensions in the installation guide before ordering if ceiling void depth is limited.

Is it suitable for bathrooms?

No. The IP20 rating means the fitting is not protected against moisture ingress and should only be used in dry indoor areas away from direct water contact.
