Description

The Calipso is a recessed downlight with a black aluminium housing and fluted cylindrical body, taking a single GU10 LED bulb rated at 10W. The fitting recesses into the ceiling void with spring clips securing the bezel flush to the ceiling surface, leaving only the black aperture and lamp visible below.

Designed for general ceiling lighting in living rooms, hallways, bedrooms, kitchens and commercial spaces, the Calipso provides directional downward light rather than ambient wash. The fluted aluminium body acts as a heat sink, conducting heat away from the GU10 lamp holder to extend LED lamp life. The black finish disappears into dark ceilings or provides a contrasting accent against white plasterboard.

The fitting carries an IP20 rating, making it suitable for dry interior locations only. Installation requires a minimum ceiling void depth of approximately 100mm to accommodate the body and lamp assembly behind the ceiling surface. The GU10 lamp is sold separately, allowing you to choose colour temperature (2700K warm white, 3000K soft white, 4000K neutral white) and beam angle (narrow spot, wide flood) to suit the application.

What GU10 bulb does it take?

The fitting takes a standard GU10 LED bulb up to 10W. GU10 bulbs are sold separately. Most residential installations use a 5-7W warm white LED (2700K-3000K) with a 38-degree beam angle.

What ceiling void depth is needed?

A minimum ceiling void of approximately 100mm is required to accommodate the recessed body, lamp holder and GU10 bulb behind the ceiling surface. Measure your void depth before ordering.

Is it dimmable?

The fitting itself is not dimmable. Dimming depends on the GU10 bulb you pair with it - if you install a dimmable GU10 LED and wire the circuit to a compatible LED dimmer, the system can be dimmed. Non-dimmable GU10 bulbs will not dim.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means the fitting is not protected against moisture ingress. It is not suitable for bathroom zones where water spray or condensation is present. Use IP44-rated or higher downlights in bathrooms.
