Description

The Calipso Solaris is a flush-mount ceiling light built around a cylindrical fluted brass shade that houses a single GU10 bulb fitting. The shade is formed from aluminium with a brushed brass finish applied to vertical flutes that run the length of the cylinder, creating a ribbed exterior that catches and reflects light. The downward-facing aperture is recessed behind a dark grey diffuser plate that softens glare and directs light downward.

Designed for hallways, cloakrooms, bathrooms (IP20 zones only), and low-ceiling rooms where a pendant would hang too low, the Solaris provides functional downlighting in a compact 70-80mm height profile. The flush-mount backplate fixes directly to a standard UK ceiling rose or junction box, with no visible chain or rod. The brass fluting adds visual interest when viewed from the side or below, preventing the fitting from appearing as a plain cylinder.

The aluminium construction keeps the weight low at under 500g, making installation straightforward on plasterboard or masonry ceilings. The brass finish is brushed rather than polished, which reduces fingerprint visibility and glare under daylight. The fitting accepts any standard GU10 bulb up to 10W (sold separately), giving flexibility to choose LED, halogen, or warm dimming options depending on the room's requirements. The vertical flutes provide texture without overwhelming small spaces where a more ornate fitting would dominate.

Is it suitable for bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means it can be used in bathroom zones outside the immediate shower or bath enclosure (typically zone 3 or beyond 2.4m from the water source). It is not rated for direct water exposure.
