Description

The Calipso is a GU10 ceiling downlight with a vertical fluted aluminium exterior finished in matt black. The cylindrical housing measures approximately 95mm tall by 60mm diameter, with the fluted exterior acting as a passive heat sink for the GU10 bulb inside. The downlight is rated for 10W maximum power draw and operates on standard 50Hz AC 220-240V mains.

Designed for recessed or surface-mounted installation in hallways, stairwells, utility rooms and entrance areas where focused downward light is needed without decorative detail. The IP20 rating makes it suitable for dry indoor environments only - not bathrooms, wet rooms or outdoor applications. The fluted black finish provides a low-profile architectural accent that recedes visually against dark ceilings or neutral walls.

The aluminium construction provides durability and efficient heat dissipation from the GU10 bulb, which is not included and must be purchased separately. Most users pair this fitting with a 5-7W GU10 LED in 3000K or 4000K depending on whether warm or neutral white light is required. The fitting is non-dimmable, so choose a fixed-output LED rather than a dimmable bulb to avoid flicker or compatibility issues.

The fitting takes a standard GU10 bulb up to 10W. The bulb is not included. Most users install a 5-7W GU10 LED in either 3000K warm white or 4000K neutral white depending on the room function.

Is it dimmable?

No. The fitting is rated as non-dimmable. Installing a dimmable GU10 bulb on a dimmer switch may cause flicker or reduced bulb life. Use a fixed-output LED bulb only.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means it is not protected against moisture. This fitting should only be installed in dry indoor environments - not bathrooms, wet rooms, kitchens near sinks, or outdoor locations.

The Calipso can be surface-mounted directly to a ceiling using the integrated back plate, or recessed into a compatible ceiling void. Check the diameter and depth clearance in your ceiling before ordering if recessing.
