GLS LED Bulbs

GLS LED bulbs are the classic rounded shape that suits most household fittings, from living room ceiling pendants to bedroom and dining room lamps. We stock a wide range in both E27 screw and B22 bayonet caps, with warm white through to daylight options. Most are from Energizer, alongside Eveready, JCB and Lumilife, in single packs and multipacks.

Matching the cap to your fitting

The first thing to check is the cap, since it has to match the lamp holder you already have. Our GLS LED range covers the two most common UK fittings: E27 Edison screw, which twists into the holder, and B22 bayonet, which pushes in and turns a quarter to lock. If you are unsure which you need, take the old bulb out and compare the base, or check the lamp holder. We carry both caps across most wattages and colour temperatures, so you can keep your usual fitting and simply swap like for like.

Choosing colour temperature

Colour temperature, measured in kelvin, sets the mood of a room. Warm white at 2700K and 3000K gives a soft, cosy light that works well in living rooms and bedrooms. Cool white at 4000K is a brighter, more neutral tone suited to kitchens and studies. Daylight at 6500K is the crispest and is often chosen for task areas and garages. We also stock gold filament bulbs at 2200K for a deeper amber glow. Brightness is given in lumens rather than watts, with options spanning roughly 470lm up to 3452lm, and many bulbs carry a wattage-equivalent guide such as 40W, 60W or 100W to make comparing against an old incandescent easier.

Filament, standard and smart bulbs

Standard GLS LED bulbs are the everyday choice for general lighting. Filament versions show visible LED strands inside clear glass for a more traditional look, ideal where the bulb is on show in an open fitting. Smart GLS bulbs are also available, including variable white and RGB colour-changing models, some with a handheld remote, letting you adjust tone and brightness without changing the bulb.

Dimmable and non-dimmable options

Both dimmable and non-dimmable GLS LED bulbs are in our range. A non-dimmable bulb should only be used on a standard on/off circuit, while a dimmable bulb is needed if you want to vary the level on a dimmer switch. Check the product details before ordering, as fitting a non-dimmable bulb to a dimmer can cause flicker or buzzing. For anything involving fixed wiring or a dimmer circuit, we recommend using a qualified electrician.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between E27 and B22 GLS bulbs?

E27 is an Edison screw cap that twists clockwise into the holder, while B22 is a bayonet cap with two small pins that you push in and turn a quarter to lock. They are not interchangeable, so the cap on your new bulb must match your existing lamp holder. We stock GLS LED bulbs in both fittings, so the simplest approach is to remove your old bulb and match the base before ordering a replacement.

Which colour temperature should I choose?

It depends on the room and the feel you want. Warm white at 2700K or 3000K suits living rooms and bedrooms where a relaxed atmosphere matters. Cool white at 4000K gives a brighter, neutral light for kitchens and studies. Daylight at 6500K is the crispest and works for task areas. We also carry gold filament bulbs at 2200K. Lower kelvin numbers are warmer and more yellow, higher numbers are cooler and bluer.

What is the difference between filament and smart GLS bulbs?

Filament GLS LED bulbs have visible LED strands inside clear glass for a traditional look, which suits open or decorative fittings where the bulb is on show. Smart GLS bulbs, by contrast, let you change settings electronically. Our smart options include variable white and RGB colour-changing models, with some controlled by a handheld remote. Choose filament for appearance and a fixed warm output, or smart if you want to adjust colour and brightness without swapping bulbs.

Can I use any GLS LED bulb with a dimmer switch?

No. Only a bulb marked as dimmable should be fitted to a dimmer circuit. We stock both dimmable and non-dimmable GLS LED bulbs, so check the product details before ordering. Using a non-dimmable bulb on a dimmer can cause flicker, buzzing or a shortened life. If you are setting up or changing a dimmer circuit, we recommend a qualified electrician handles any fixed wiring.
