Description

The Avant-Garde is a wall light built around a white opal glass sphere mounted on a curved matt black metal backplate. The backplate wraps vertically behind the sphere in a geometric arc, creating a layered silhouette against the wall. The single G9 bulb (sold separately, max 25W) sits inside the sphere and diffuses through the white glass as a soft ambient glow.

Designed for hallways, stairwells, bedrooms and living room accent positions, the Avant-Garde provides functional lighting without dominating the wall visually. The 30cm height and 18cm projection suit narrow corridors and alcoves where a traditional picture light or sconce would feel too wide. The IP20 rating restricts it to dry indoor locations only.

The matt black finish on the metal backplate absorbs light rather than reflecting it, keeping attention on the illuminated sphere. The curved backplate references mid-century modernist forms but the overall composition reads as contemporary rather than period. The white opal glass is fully opaque when the light is off, so the internal bulb remains hidden until switched on. What bulb does it take?

The Avant-Garde uses a single G9 bulb up to 25W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a 3-5W LED G9 bulb in warm white (2700K-3000K) for hallway or bedroom accent lighting.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

No. The IP20 rating means it is suitable for dry indoor locations only. It cannot be installed in bathrooms, shower rooms, or any location where it may be exposed to moisture or steam.

What mounting height works best?

For hallway navigation lighting, mount the fitting between 1.5m and 1.8m from the floor. This places the centre of the sphere at or slightly above eye level, which provides good light distribution without glare when walking past.

Is the glass shade replaceable if damaged?

The white opal glass sphere is a separate component. Contact us for availability of replacement glass shades for this Maytoni model if the original becomes damaged.
