Description

The Varas is an 82cm bar pendant from Schuller with 14 vertical LED tubes suspended at staggered heights from a rectangular matte white canopy. Seven tubes are finished in glossy gold, seven in matte white, and each houses integrated 3000K warm white LEDs behind opal acrylic diffusers. The combined 70W output provides ambient light rather than focused task lighting, with the opal diffusers softening the LED sources into a continuous glow along each tube.

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands and open-plan living areas with ceiling heights of 2.6m or above, the Varas works where both length and vertical drop are available. The 82cm canopy aligns well with tables between 1.8m and 2.4m long, and the adjustable cable suspension allows the lowest tube to be set between 50cm and 140cm from the ceiling. The staggered tube arrangement creates visual rhythm when viewed from the side, while appearing more uniform when viewed end-on.

The gold and white alternating finish provides contrast without requiring additional accent colours in the room. The glossy gold tubes catch and reflect natural light during the day, while the matte white tubes recede slightly, giving the fitting depth. At 11.05kg the pendant requires a secure ceiling fixing point rated for the weight. The integrated LEDs are dimmable when paired with a compatible mains dimmer, allowing output to be reduced for evening dining or increased for food preparation tasks on a kitchen island.

Is the Varas dimmable?

Yes. The integrated LEDs are dimmable when used with a compatible mains LED dimmer. Not all dimmers work with all LED fittings, so test compatibility or contact us if you need dimmer recommendations.

What ceiling height is needed?

The suspension cables are adjustable between 50cm and 140cm from the ceiling to the lowest tube. For a dining table or kitchen island, the typical installation sets the lowest tube 70-90cm above the surface, which requires a ceiling height of at least 2.6m.

What table length does it suit?

The 82cm canopy length works well over tables between 1.8m and 2.4m long. For longer tables, consider pairing two Varas pendants end-to-end, or supplementing with additional lighting.

How is it installed?

The fitting weighs 11.05kg and requires a ceiling fixing point rated for at least 15kg. The canopy mounts to a standard UK ceiling rose or junction box, and the individual tube cables are adjusted during installation to set the desired overall drop.
