Description

The Surcos is a 120x80cm rectangle wall mirror with a hand-applied silver leaf finish over a solid MDF backing. The silver leaf creates a textured, rippling surface across the mirror face itself, visible as organic black veining running through the reflective plane. The mirror hangs either vertically (portrait) or horizontally (landscape) depending on wall dimensions and the space above furniture.

Designed for living rooms, hallways, bedrooms and dressing areas, the Surcos works above console tables, between tall windows, or across a feature wall where a single large reflective surface opens up the perceived room depth. The 4cm profile keeps the mirror flush to the wall without creating heavy shadow lines. At 23kg, the mirror requires two secure wall fixings into masonry or timber studs rather than plasterboard alone.

The silver leaf application gives each mirror a slightly different veining pattern depending on how the leaf settled during manufacture. This is a characteristic of the artisanal finish rather than a defect. The cool silver tone pairs cleanly with grey, white, charcoal and soft blue interiors, and works particularly well in rooms with north-facing light where warmer metallic finishes can appear too yellow. The textured surface diffuses reflected light more softly than plain polished glass.

Can the mirror hang both ways?

Yes. The Surcos can be hung vertically (120cm tall) or horizontally (80cm tall) depending on the wall space and furniture below. The fixings on the back accommodate both orientations.

What wall fixings are needed?

At 23kg, the mirror requires two wall fixings rated for at least 15kg each. Use masonry anchors for brick or block walls, or timber studs for plasterboard walls. Plasterboard alone will not support the weight safely.

Is the silver leaf pattern identical on every mirror?

No. The silver leaf is hand-applied, so the organic black veining and rippling texture varies between individual mirrors. This is a feature of the artisanal finish, not a defect.

How is the silver leaf surface cleaned?

Wipe gently with a dry microfibre cloth. For fingerprints or marks, use a barely-damp cloth with distilled water and dry immediately. Avoid household glass cleaners, sprays or polishes, as these can damage the silver leaf finish.
