Description

The Ridmore is a single-light wall sconce cast in solid brass with a decorative bow-tie ribbon motif, finished in polished brass. A white candle sleeve sits in a circular drip tray, held by a curved arm that extends from a backplate shaped like a tied ribbon bow. The fitting takes a single SES (E14) candle bulb up to 60W (sold separately).

Designed for traditional and period-style interiors, the Ridmore works flanking mirrors in hallways, on either side of a fireplace, or spaced along corridor walls where ceiling lights are impractical. The 13cm projection from the wall and 18cm height suit narrow passages and alcoves without intruding into circulation space. The upright candle orientation provides vertical wash light that highlights wall textures and frames rather than directing light for reading or task work.

The solid brass construction gives the fitting a 350g weight and a tactile solidity that die-cast alternatives lack. The polished finish shows fingerprints and will tarnish over time unless periodically cleaned with a brass polish — this gradual patina is often considered desirable in period-correct installations. The cast ribbon detailing includes shallow recesses and raised edges that catch light differently depending on the angle, adding dimensionality to the bow motif.

What bulb does the Ridmore take?

The fitting takes a single SES (E14) candle bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most installations use a 4-6W LED candle bulb in warm white (2700K) to mimic the appearance of traditional incandescent candle lamps.

Will the polished brass tarnish?

Yes. Polished brass develops a patina over time when exposed to air and handling. This can be cleaned with a standard brass polish, or left to age naturally for a darker, antiqued appearance that many period interiors favour.

Can this be used in bathrooms?

The Ridmore carries no IP rating and is designed for dry indoor use only. It is not suitable for bathrooms unless installed outside the designated zones (typically more than 600mm from a bath or shower enclosure, depending on local regulations).

How is the fitting mounted?

The backplate fixes to a standard wall-mounted electrical back box using two screws. The ribbon-shaped backplate conceals the box and cable entry point once installed.
